Himachal Pradesh is the beating heart of India backpacker circuit. The Kullu Valley, Parvati Valley, and surroundings offer some of the country most stunning mountain scenery and the infrastructure for budget travellers is excellent.
The Manali to Kasol Corridor
Most backpackers base-camp in either Manali for treks and adventure sports, or Kasol for the hippie-trail vibe. The bus between the two takes about 4 hours.
Kasol, The Mini Israel
Kasol attracts a large number of Israeli travellers drawn by the mountains and relaxed atmosphere. Guesthouses along the Parvati River are affordable. Fresh-baked Israeli-style pita with hummus is a staple at the many bakeries.
